All things computer!

Bits and pieces…

I have been a bad boy! I have chipped my xbox and installed a new dashboard and xbmc a really sweet mediacenter. It plays almost everything and it looks cool doing so!

Oh, and I’m leaving for Norway tomorrow, wont be back for a couple of weeks, see ya πŸ™‚

Hardware faliure!

times several thousand…

/dev/hda is one of the harddisks in my desktopmachine. I/O error means something is severely wrong. Spent most of yesterday trying to get backups before the bastard died completely, I think i succeeded. I have replaced the drive with a new 200 GB Maxtor series 10 and are creating a partitiontable right now. Then it is time to role the backup back on… Wish me luck!

OOo

I’ve been a geek the last couple of days… Yes I know, I’m a geek every day, but I’ve been really geeky the last couple of days.
OpenOffice 2.0 was released Thursday and one of the main things about this release, for me anyway, was the databasefrontend. I have fiddled quite a bit but now it works, from my desktop-machine with OOo on Debian-testing to my server with MySQL and Debian-stable. Actually, it was not very hard to get working, but it was a nice excuse to fiddle with my OOo install a whole lot πŸ˜‰ .

Still here, more or less

I’m not dead, I might smell dead from time to time, but that is something completely different.
I’ve been busy, really busy, with unionstuff and work mostly. We have reconfigured all the servers at work and that took way more time than predicted. Kids are still fun though, they still make me laugh and I still leave work every day with a smile πŸ™‚
Gotta go now, I promise I’ll try to keep this page a little more ajour in the future.

Hothothot

I’m not the only one with the opinion that it is allmost to hot, my server seems to think the same thing.
So I bought a fan, only to realize that there is no where to mount it in my cabinet. Now i’ve bought a dremel and I’m about to drill holes in my server… Four small ones and one really big one, wish me luck.

An update, the operation succeeded, I have drilled and cut and grinded my server and there are now several new holes in it.
